The Lord’s Prayer by Mary Lou Retton
Many of us feel intimidated about our prayer life — we look at other Christians, and prayer seems to come naturally to them. But somehow we feel that we just don’t “get it.” Author Mary Lou Redding reminds us that the disciples were with Jesus continually, and still they had to ask him for help in learning how to pray. That should reassure us, she says.
Because the Lord’s Prayer is so familiar, we run the risk of praying it by rote without really thinking about the meaning of the words. Mary Lou Redding, editorial director of The Upper Room daily devotional guide, explores this ancient prayer phrase by phrase and helps us see how it can be a model for all of our praying.
Wednesday Morning Ladies will start a Beth Moore Study on January 11th at 9:30 in Room 204. For more information, please contact Laney Ford.
Beloved Disciple: The Life and Ministry of John by Beth Moore.
Explore with Beth, the life of the apostle John who must have thought that he had seen everything. Having been with Jesus all the years of His ministry, John witnessed more miracles than he could count, saw more displays of power than he could comprehend, and experienced more love than he could fathom. John was there when Jesus turned the water to wine, offered Living Water to the woman at the well, yielded to His Father's will in the garden of Gethsemane, and gave His life on a Roman cross. And one unforgettable morning young John outran Peter to his Savior's empty tomb.
Yet God had more in store for the Son of Thunder. As the other disciples were martyred one by one, John remained to write his sublime Gospel proclaiming Jesus' identity as the eternal Word of God. In his three letters John left a legacy of divine love to ignite the passion of future believers. And while exiled on Patmos, John recorded His risen Lord's glorious revelation of victory and hope.
Morning Son will start a Max Lucado Study on January 16th at 8:15 in Room 303. This is open to all at Chapel Hill. For more information, please contact Angela Paulin.
Cure for the Common Life, Finding your Sweet Spot by Max Lucado
“Sweet Spot." Ever swung a baseball bat or paddled a Ping-Pong ball? If so, you know the oh-so-nice feel of the sweet spot. Life in the sweet spot rolls like the downhill side of a downwind bike ride. But you don't have to swing a bat or a club to know this. What engineers give sports equipment, God gave you. Best-selling author Max Lucado has found it. In Cure for the Common Life, he offers practical tools for exploring and identifying your own uniqueness, motivation to put your strengths to work, and the perfect prescription for finding and living in your sweet spot for the rest of your life.
