Pastor Ted Burke

tedofficeRev. Ted Burke is the 2nd of four sons born to Jim Burke and Hope Hightower. In 1971 he experienced the overwhelming love of Jesus Christ and realized no matter how bad or good he was, God was going to love him. In 1975 he heard the call to preach and began exploring this journey as a member of Trinity Hill United Methodist Church in Lexington, Kentucky. Rev. Burke graduated from Lexington Lafayette High School, graduated from Western Kentucky University with a BA in Religion, attended Vanderbilt Divinity School and graduated from Louisville Presbyterian Seminary. He began preaching in 1978 at two small United Methodist Churches in Hart County, Kentucky. Over the last 30-something years, he has served United Methodist Churches in Western Kentucky and has been the pastor of Chapel Hill UMC since 1999.

Ted is the 5th generation of his family to pastor in the Methodist Church and he is married to the former Paula Scherm, has two children, Lexy and Phillip Tretter. He enjoys golfing, fishing, and reading.

Chapel Hill has been one of the greatest blessings in his spiritual journey. In summarizing his pastorate at Chapel Hill, he said, "God has a purpose for Chapel Hill and the closer we get to that purpose, the more we see God moving." God is certainly moving at Chapel Hill and continues to move in the life of our pastor, Ted Burke.

dsc_0237A few of Ted's favorite scriptures:

I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me. Phillipians 4:13

If my people, who are called by my name, will humble themselves and pray and seek my face and turn from their wicked ways, then will I hear from heaven and will forgive their sin and will heal their land. Chronicles 7:14

For God did not send his Son into the world to condemn the world, but to save the world through him. John 3:17

The Mission of Chapel Hill Church is to make disciples of Jesus Christ for the transformation of the world.

The Vision for Chapel Hill Church is for the people of Chapel Hill to bring in 300 new people and under the direction of the Holy Spirit nurture them into maturing disciples of Jesus Christ.

The Pastor’s Corner by TED BURKE February 2012

The year 2012 has started with a big bang at Chapel Hill and I can‘t wait to see what God is going to do through this wonderful church in the coming year. Our Leadership Summit for the chairs of teams and committees was a wonderful experienceand the fellowship among this group is inspiring. Our first Class 101 of the year had 10 people in attendance and we will announce our new members in the next few weeks. Our youth have raisedfunds for their trip to Winter Blitz and lives were changed for the glory of God. What a great beginning to anew year.

One of the most significant events in the month of February will be the beginning of the season of Lent. When we refer to Lent in the church we are not speaking of that fuzzy stuff underneath you bed but atime to prepare for Easter morning. The church has from the very beginning chose a season for people toexamine their lives and find ways to grow closer to God. You will hear of people giving up something forthe season of Lent to remind themselves what Jesus gave up for you and me. Lent is going to be special at Chapel Hill in 2012.

We will begin the season of Lent on February 22nd with an Ash Wednesday service at First UMC. We will join with our brothers and sisters from First and Bennett Memorial in the holy day. During the season of Lent we are going to study as a church the ―Not a Fan ‖ series. I will be preaching on from this series and oursmall groups will be studying the book. I know this is going to be a blessed time for Chapel Hill and I amexcited to see what God is going to do next. God bless you and see you Sunday.
